Twenty Six Months

Sigh. My baby boy is a
big boy. He has added more colors to his vocabulary: brown, pink, purple, and orange. He's singing his ABC's all by himself, and he's even counting from 1 to 20 (except he forgets the 14, 16, and 17). This morning, before we left for the nanny's, he pulled out his water and milk bottles, and started counting them, "one, two, twee, fah, fife, six, sebin, ite, nine, tan, elebin" etc. I had the biggest grin, because there were only two bottles!

Diego does a great job when singing his
ABC's, but still has trouble with the "L's." It's cute when he gets to the quick "l-m-n-o-p" - he just hums through it. When he gets to "W X Y Z" he says "da-da-u, da-da-u, y, z" - the x goes missing.

Diego is talking a lot, and the nanny is amazed over and over. She didn't realize he knew sign language and was thrilled when he signed "shoes." Then she was shocked that he knew all his body parts. I play a game with him now; I point to my nose and say "knee?" Diego looks at me expressionless, just waiting til I say "NOOOO!!! Silly mommy, that's your nose!!" I do that with all the body parts, and he loves it, and starts giggling.

I love being a mommy. There is no greater joy than to watch your child grow up. The other night, German and I were standing outside with Diego looking at the dark sky. There was a crescent moon out, and Diego pointed to it and said "Baby moon!" We started laughing - it wasn't the normal big moon he's used to seeing, so obviously it was a "baby." Anything that is a smaller version of something else he will call a "baby." His stackable blocks - "baby block" he says for the smallest one that goes on top.

A few words that Diego says that has caught me off guard were the descriptive words. He'll enter a room with dim lights and say "iss dark" (he can't say the "t" in "it's"). Or he'll be running and say "fast!" He'll also say "iss heavy," or "iss stuck" or "broken." He also loves to say "hug?" with his arms thrust wide open. A couple of weeks ago, we were playing outside and the printer suddenly turned on (the power just came back). Diego was less than thrilled, and gave me a frown. He pointed to the printer and said "noise."

The pictures below are of that day. I had to capture all those expressions - the power kept going on and off, and of course so did the printer. Each time that happened the printer would make those loud, mechanical noises. The one with him frowning was when he finally pointed and said "noise."
